Design and installation of natural stone cladding in the refurbishment of a high quality residential building.

STAGES: Project coordination, technical design and construction (UK RIBA stages 4 & 5).

DESCRIPTION:

Harrison Goldman Studio was appointed by Grand Finish (specialist sub-contractor) to work in a new built natural stone façade on a five-storey residential building. The building is located in the heart of Kensington, one of the most exclusive areas of London.

In this project, the curve of the façade was a challenge, as both stone and sub-structure needed to adapt to an irregular shape.

I had the opportunity of working on the design and detailing of the cladding sub-structure that was fixed to a concrete façade. We were able to provide our client with a bespoke, highly innovative and light-weight aluminium frame sub-structure system that allowed both the support and restraint of the new 40 mm natural stone façade.

In this project, we had to work closely with different teams of sub-contractors and specialists. The co-ordination was very important to get a high quality result. It is worth mentioning that we did a great job during the installation and co-ordination between the stone cladding and the new windows. At the same time, one of the most important points, for security reasons, was the co-ordination of the aluminium sub-structure and the fire barrier system.

This new natural stone façade is a fine addition to Kensington Church Street, and our client was very satisfied with our job.
