Design and installation of natural stone façade in a high quality historical office building, in co-ordination with other associated teams.

STAGES: Project coordination and technical design (UK RIBA stages 4 & 5).

DESCRIPTION:

Harrison Goldman Studio was appointed by M&S Restorations Ltd (specialist sub-contractor) to work in a historical office building in central London. The building is located in the heart Fleet St. Quarter, one of the most exclusive office areas near the Business District.

This project implied the refurbishment of the historical building and the construction of new stone façades levels on top of the historical façades, providing an extra 9000 m2 of premium office space.

In this project, the main challenge was the design a new stone façade that replicates the listed stone façade of the lower levels of this majestic building dating back from the thirties.

The construction of the new stone façade and stone baluster combines masonry and external cladding techniques, depending on the area.

I had the opportunity of working on the design of the stone, understanding the different sections that the new façade offer. It was very import to understand and coordinate with the new metal structure, the fire strategy and the new windows.

The management of times and the coordination with other team’s work has been a key point through the construction process.

The work implied multiple on-site visits and on-site meetings, as well as working closely with other sub-contractors teams and the main contractor.

In 2025, the building is still under construction.
